Not Everything in a Home Has to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful

Recently, my mom posted a picture of her home online, hoping to share a little glimpse of the space she had worked hard to make comfortable and welcoming.

Instead of kindness, some people chose to criticize.

They commented on her couch covers, saying they looked outdated or unattractive. Others seemed to judge the room simply because it didn’t look like something from an expensive interior-design magazine.

And honestly, that bothered me.

A Home Is More Than Its Decor

My mom doesn’t have the money right now for a built-in cabinet, designer furniture, or expensive decorations. That doesn’t mean she should have to apologize for her home.

She used the things she could afford. She put covers on the couch to protect it and give the room a cleaner, warmer appearance. She added soft lighting because she wanted the space to feel cozy in the evening.

Those aren’t things to criticize.

They’re signs that someone is trying to make the best of what they have.
