Garlic Oregano Cinnamon Tea

Posted on May 2, 2026 by foodiefusion

This combination might sound more like a pasta sauce meeting a dessert, but in the world of herbal medicine, Garlic, Oregano, and Cinnamon form a “Triple Threat” infusion.

This tea is a powerhouse for the immune system, particularly during flu season or when dealing with stubborn respiratory issues. Here is the breakdown of why this pungent trio works so well together.

🛡️ The Benefits: Why These Three?

1. Garlic: The Natural Antibiotic

Garlic contains allicin, a sulfur compound released when the clove is crushed. It is one of nature’s most effective antimicrobials, capable of fighting bacteria, viruses, and even certain fungi.

2. Oregano: The Respiratory Cleanser

Oregano is rich in carvacrol and thymol. These compounds act as natural decongestants and expectorants, helping to clear mucus from the lungs and soothe a spasmodic cough. It’s also incredibly high in antioxidants—far higher than most fruits.

3. Cinnamon: The Flavor & Circulation Booster

Cinnamon does more than just mask the strong scent of garlic.

  • Anti-Viral: It helps inhibit viral replication.

  • Circulation: It warms the body and improves blood flow, helping your immune cells travel faster to where they are needed.

  • Blood Sugar: As we discussed with guava, cinnamon helps keep insulin levels stable.

☕ How to Make Garlic-Oregano-Cinnamon Tea

Because garlic loses its potency if boiled too long, the method of preparation is key.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cloves of fresh garlic (crushed and left to sit for 10 minutes to activate allicin)

  • 1 tsp dried oregano (or a small sprig of fresh)

  • 1 stick of Ceylon cinnamon (or ½ tsp ground cinnamon)

  • 1.5 cups of water

  • Raw Honey & Lemon (highly recommended to balance the savory flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Base: Bring the water and the cinnamon stick to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes until the water turns a light reddish-brown.

  2. Add Oregano: Turn off the heat and add the oregano.

  3. The Garlic Step: Add the crushed garlic last. Let the mixture steep for 5–7 minutes with a lid on the pot to keep the volatile oils from evaporating.

  4. Strain and Sip: Strain into a mug. Add plenty of honey and lemon—trust me, the garlic/oregano combo is “medicinal” in flavor, and the lemon helps neutralize the garlic breath!

⚖️ When to Use This Tea

  • At the First Sign of a Cold: Drink this as soon as you feel a tickle in your throat.

  • Sinus Congestion: The steam alone from this tea helps open up nasal passages.

  • Gut Health: This tea is often used in protocols for SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) due to the antibacterial nature of all three ingredients.

A Quick “Kitchen Peer” Warning:

  • Breath Alert: You will smell like garlic for a few hours. If you have a big meeting or a date, maybe stick to just the Cinnamon and Oregano!

  • Blood Pressure: Both garlic and oregano can naturally lower blood pressure. If you are already on blood pressure medication, monitor how you feel to ensure your levels don’t dip too low.
