Matt Grodsky and Laura Scheel first met when they were just three years old at a preschool in Phoenix, Arizona.
Even at that age, Matt apparently had big plans.
One of his earliest memories was standing in front of his preschool class and confidently announcing that he was going to marry Laura someday.
The other children laughed.

🧸 From Preschool Friends to Childhood Sweethearts
Matt and Laura quickly became close friends.
They played hide-and-seek, tried their best to stay awake during nap time, and enjoyed the simple adventures that make childhood so special.
But when preschool ended, life took them in different directions.
For several years, they lost touch.
Their families remained loosely connected through annual Christmas cards, but Matt and Laura weren’t part of each other’s everyday lives anymore.
Then high school changed everything.
❤️ Finding Each Other Again
A mutual friend eventually brought them back together.
Within just two weeks, they began dating.
Their relationship survived different high schools and eventually the challenge of attending college in separate states.
They had to navigate distance, changing schedules, and growing into adulthood while maintaining their relationship.
But somehow, the connection that had begun in preschool remained.
💍 A Promise Made at Three
In May 2015, Matt decided it was time to revisit the place where their story had started.
He told Laura they were going on a picnic.
But there was something else waiting for her.
Matt took her back to their old preschool—the very place where, as a little boy, he had confidently predicted their future.
Then he got down on one knee.
And this time, Laura said yes. 🥹💍
On December 30, 2016, more than two decades after their preschool days, Matt and Laura officially became husband and wife.
The little boy who once stood in front of his classmates and declared that Laura would be his wife had somehow grown into a man who was ready to make that childhood promise real.
🌱 Sometimes Love Grows With You
Their story isn’t simply about a promise made by two three-year-olds.
It’s about reconnecting, choosing each other again, surviving years apart, and allowing a childhood friendship to grow into something much deeper.
Life took them away from each other for a while.
But when they found their way back, the connection was still there.
