❤️ A Mother’s Hidden Strength: The Extraordinary Sacrifice of Baheya
Sometimes, a mother’s love is tested not by ordinary challenges, but by circumstances that seem almost impossible to survive.
The story of Baheya Ali Suleiman, a mother from Egypt, is one such story. 👩👧👦
Baheya was raising three young children while her husband was unable to work because of a disability. With mounting debts and very little income, the family found themselves struggling simply to get by.
Determined to provide for her children, Baheya first took construction work while wearing women’s clothing. But she faced harassment from male workers, making an already difficult situation even harder.
So she made a drastic decision.
She cut her hair short, began wearing men’s clothing, and started living publicly as a man named Bakar.
For years, she worked jobs that were traditionally considered men’s work. She labored on construction sites and drove a small three-wheeled vehicle, carrying passengers to earn money for her family. Her coworkers believed she was a man and had no idea about her true identity.
But even after everything she had endured, the family’s financial problems continued.
As the debts became overwhelming, Baheya made an extraordinarily painful decision: she sold one of her kidneys for approximately 25,000 Egyptian pounds.
The money helped pay some of the family’s debts and prevented their situation from becoming even worse.
The physical consequences, however, did not disappear. After the operation, Baheya was weak and struggling—but she continued working because her children still needed her. 💔
Her story is difficult to read because it reveals the extreme circumstances some parents can find themselves facing when poverty leaves them with seemingly impossible choices.
Baheya’s journey is not simply a story about sacrifice. It is also a reminder of the immense burdens that parents sometimes carry silently while trying to protect their children.
A mother may be exhausted. She may be frightened. She may have almost nothing left.
And yet, somehow, she keeps going.
Because sometimes a parent’s love becomes the strength they didn’t know they had. ❤️
Her story reminds us that behind many families struggling to survive, there may be a parent quietly making sacrifices the rest of the world never sees. 🙏
