❤️ The Man Who Received Her Father’s Heart—and Later Walked Her Down the Aisle

Some stories are difficult to describe because they seem to connect two lives in a way that feels almost impossible.

In 2006, Michael Stepien, a chef from Swissvale, Pennsylvania, was walking home from work when he was fatally attacked during a robbery. His death left behind a grieving family and a daughter who would eventually have to imagine some of life’s biggest moments without him.

But even after his death, Michael gave someone else a chance to live.

His heart was donated to Arthur “Tom” Thomas of New Jersey, a man who had spent years waiting for a heart transplant. Accounts differ over exactly how long Tom had been waiting, with some reports putting it at nearly a decade and others considerably longer.

A decade later, Michael’s daughter, Jeni Stepien, was preparing for one of the most important days of her life—her wedding.

There was just one person missing.
